The healthcare and aged care sector are the biggest, indirect contributors to Australia’s carbon emissions. Healthcare should be leading way to “heal the environment” and drastically cut its own CO2 footprint to accelerate Australia’s journey towards a Net Zero future.
While sustainability initiatives are important, healthcare organisations – public and private hospitals and aged care providers – have limited funds and are highly focused on prioritising resources towards improving patient care and treatment. Leaders in the healthcare sector are under increasing pressure from government and community stakeholders to adopt Net Zero commitments and ensure their organisation invests more resources in sustainable healthcare models and emissions reduction initiatives.
