Ecosave’s Solar PV Solution Slashes Carbon Emissions for Woollahra Council
- The Woollahra Council partnered with Ecosave to install a new solar PV system for their Woollahra Library at Double Bay.
The renewable energy project aims to reduce Woollahra Library and Kiaora Place’s energy costs by up to 50%, and power their common areas using the new solar system.
Double Bay, NSW – The Woollahra Municipal Council announced the installation of a new solar PV system on the roof of Double Bay’s Woollahra Library. It is a huge step towards Net Zero as the system aims to reduce the library’s carbon footprint by as much as 50 per cent.
Woollahra’s Mayor, Hon. Susan Wynne believes that the project’s impact is significant enough to contribute to the Council’s decarbonisation goals.
We’re really proud of this project as the new system more than doubles our existing solar capacity, with a newly combined total of 111.8 kW across six Council sites.

“We are thrilled to support the Council and contribute towards achieving their sustainability targets. Our goal was to design and safely install a robust Solar PV system that will benefit the Council for many years to come,” said Robin Archibald – Ecosave’s Group Managing Director
The Woollahra Library Solar PV System can supply over 80,000 kW hours of renewable energy annually. An estimated 73,000 kg of Carbon emissions will be reduced by the new system, and it will help power the library and Kiaora Place’s common areas.
Mayor Wynne also mentioned that the solar project is equivalent to powering 15 households every year or removing 16 automobiles off their city’s roads.
“We want to practice what we preach and show our residents that switching to renewables is a worthwhile investment.
“Not only will you reduce your carbon emissions and help combat climate change – but you’ll save money on your power bill too,” she added.
Mayor Wynne also mentioned that in combination with their renewable energy contract with Ecosave, the Council is glad to report that half of Kiaora Place’s power requirements are now from renewable energy sources.
As the Council pays its respects to Elders past and present, the Woollahra Municipal Council aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to help Australia achieve its 2050 Net Zero goals. By launching programs such as “Switch to GreenPower”, they aim to tap renewable energy to power their facilities, encourage its citizens to conserve electricity and create new jobs in the renewable energy sector.
