LEED Platinum building uses 30% less energy than it was designed to use

A commercial office in Philadelphia now consumes 30% less energy than it was designed to as a LEED Platinum building with the help of Ecosave services. Ecosave achieved these savings through advanced building controls and programming developed through over a decade of energy management experience.

As a trusted Building Automation System (BAS) specialist, Ecosave Inc partnered with the customer to design controls and manage HEATING, VENTILATION and COOLING systems (HVAC) to optimise efficient operation and energy savings as well as occupant comfort and functionality. The result was a dramatic drop in energy use from HVAC and a smaller decrease in other areas including lighting and processing.

TO ACHIEVE THESE SAVINGS, ECOSAVE DEPLOYED THE FOLLOWING STRATEGIES:

• Installed new BAS that offers precise controls and a highly detailed network of meters and virtual meters that allow for optimal operations and comfort.
• In-depth reporting down to LEED sub-meter level data for tenant space and common areas.
• CO2 and occupancy sensors to modify and reduce the conditioned air needs when spaces are unoccupied.
• Advanced control sequences for fine control of lighting and HVAC. For example, when a staff member returns to the office after hours, the Ecosave system activates only the lights in their path, and only conditions the air in their vicinity, rather than the whole building.

These services generate annual energy savings of $131,816 for the customer.
