Queensland Health – Voltage Power Optimisation
Case Study: Ecosave Energy Savings Project – St George Hospital
St George Hospital Voltage Power Optimisation Project (VPO)
Queensland Health is a dynamic organisation committed to providing a range of services aimed at achieving good health and well-being for all Queenslanders. Through a network of 16 Health Service Districts and the Mater Hospital. Queensland Health delivers a range of integrated services, such as Medical, Surgical, Accident and Emergency, Outpatients, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Postnatal care, Palliative Care.
ECOSAVE COMPLETED AN ENERGY CONSERVATION PROJECT AT ST GEORGE HOSPITAL WHICH ACHIEVED THE FOLLOWING RESULTS:
As part of the Voltage Power Optimisation project at St George Hospital, a voltage regulation unit (VR unit) was installed and connected to the incoming electricity supply to the site’s main switchboard. The VR unit chosen for this application eliminates excessive voltage spikes whilst maintaining voltage within the required limits. This unit has provided better than expected savings, with no issues or disruption to St George Hospital operations.
In addition to the Voltage Regulator the following solutions were also installed:
- Air conditioning temperature set point adjustments
- Air conditioning energy saving modules
- Lighting refurbishments to fluorescent fittings using energy efficient components
- Lighting replacements with energy efficient lights
- Re-lamping of existing light fittings with energy efficient lamps
The following graph shows the site voltage variations before and after the installation of the VR unit.
Several other energy savings initiatives were also carried out by Ecosave for Queensland Health – see Case Study: Energy Savings Project – Queensland Health
